Guidance tools in Flanders

Several guidance tools have been developed in Flanders. Euroguidance disseminates information on them, so guidance professionals outside of Flanders can discover these qualitative tools. We provide information on a selection of these tools here below.

Euroguidance Flanders has presented some of these guidance tools as a good practice example to guidance professionals and services throughout Europe (marked with *).

ONDERWIJSKIEZER ('Education selector') *

Online guidance tool for pupils, students, parents and guidance professionals who are looking for study and training options, as well as background information. Onderwijskiezer was developed by the pupil guidance umbrellas and offers objective, independent and qualitative information on study and training options in Flanders and Brussels. Guidance professionals can consult this information, as well as guidance materials (including assessment tools) and frequently asked questions. Onderwijskiezer is listed as a good practice example on the Euroguidance network website. 

A recent development is the additional platform Sidin.onderwijskiezer.be, which supports pupils, parents and guidance professionals in the transition from secondary education to higher education and the labour market. This tool is often used in preparation of the SID-In fairs – annual guidance fairs organised by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training to support the transition from secondary education to higher education and the labour market.

OPLEIDINGSKOMPAS ('Training Compass') *

The Training Compass ‎is an online guidance tool for lifelong learning. This tool provides information on training programmes in recognised educational centers and supports lifelong learning. 

CLB CHAT *

Through CLBCHAT pupils and parents can consult a pupil guidance practitioner with questions on education and career choices.  CLB Chat is listed as a good practice example on the Euroguidance website. 

VRAAG HET AAN SIMON ('Ask Simon')

A digital instrument developed by a group of colleges and universities to support pupils in the transition from secondary to higher education. Please visit vraaghetaansimon.be for more information.

Exploratietool COLUMBUS ('Exploration tool Columbus') *

Columbus is an exploration tool that supports pupils (in the final years in secondary school) in their decision making process regarding their future careers. Schools can select when to use the tool and the modules can be completed separately at different points in time. This allows schools to develop a tailored approach. 

VDAB ORIENTERINGSTEST ('VDAB Orientation test')

VDAB is the Flemish public employment service. Members of the public can consult their platform Welke job past bij me? | VDAB to discover which professions would suit them.
